Home health is care that is provided in the client’s home because the client is homebound. The medical treatment provided is intended to help recover independence and self-sufficiency and to prevent unnecessary hospital visits.
Home health is part of Medicare benefits. Most times there is no cost to you. Many insurance companies also cover home health visits. Your financial liability for any co-pay will be discussed before starting care.
You must have a physician, physician assistant, or advance practice registered nurse prescribe home health.
You must have need of skilled nursing or therapeutic services such as physical, occupational, or speech therapy. These services must be medically necessary to treat your medical condition.
You must be homebound. This means assistance (human/device) is required to leave the house. Also, if leaving the house causes such a taxing effort that it is detrimental to the client’s health and wellbeing. Homebound status is not always permanent.
